Neuro-Rehabilliation work:

Kerry has extensive experience working across a range of neurological rehabilitation settings, supporting individuals with complex neurological conditions through person-centred, evidence-based music therapy.

She currently works at the Irvine Unit at Bexhill Hospital (funded by Music Well), providing one-to-one Neurological Music Therapy for stroke survivors and people living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Her work focuses on supporting emotional wellbeing alongside speech, communication and fine motor rehabilitation, helping patients engage more fully in their recovery.

In addition to individual therapy, Kerry facilitates a stroke rehabilitation group, delivers therapeutic group activities on the ward, and co-runs a community-based FND group in partnership with the hospital's Speech and Language Therapy team.

Kerry believes that emotional wellbeing is fundamental to successful rehabilitation. By creating a safe, engaging therapeutic environment, she helps patients build confidence, motivation and resilience, enabling greater participation in their rehabilitation journey. This philosophy underpins all of her neurological music therapy practice.

Her work in this area has contributed to published research exploring the relationship between emotional wellbeing and neurological rehabilitation through music therapy. (Link to publication). Data (Aphasia Impact Questionnaire 21) from this project was collected by the Speech and Language Therapy team at Bexhill Hospital, who also presented an abstract to the Stroke Association, generating significant interest from speech and language therapists across the UK.
