People seeking refuge
Kerry is currently developing a community music therapy project in partnership with Eastbourne-based ‘Sanctuary’, an organisation dedicated to supporting people seeking refuge. The project aims to provide a safe, creative, and welcoming space where individuals can experience healing, build resilience, and develop a sense of connection and belonging.
Through observing the impact of community music therapy projects, Kerry has witnessed the profound ways in which music can bring people together. Music offers a universal language, enabling connection and self-expression even when spoken language may be limited or barriers exist.
Drawing on psychodynamic music therapy approaches alongside appropriate trauma-informed techniques, including elements of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Kerry’s work aims to support emotional processing, strengthen human connection, and create opportunities for shared experiences that foster community, trust, and belonging.
